HURTING NOT HELPING

A True Childcare Crisis

This coronavirus pandemic has added stress to many different aspects of American life. The childcare industry has been particularly hard-hit. While some parents keep their children out of daycare because of fears for their health, these parents cannot properly return to work and help to return our economy and country to a more normal state. Even before the pandemic, America’s healthcare landscape needed to be changed. High costs due to overregulation have made quality childcare out of reach for many parents and children.

Judge Barrett Will Not Dismantle Health Care

The confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett made clear there is zero chance the Supreme Court will strike down the entire Affordable Care Act and eliminate coverage for those with pre-existing conditions. First, while Judge Barrett was careful to observe ethical canons restricting what a judicial candidate can say, her comments regarding the ACA revealed a fair and careful judicial mind. Second, Judge Barrett repeatedly explained that, because Congress amended the ACA in 2017 to zero out the mandate’s penalty, the case currently pending before the Supreme Court, California v. Texas, involves very different legal questions than the prior case challenging the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate (NFIB v. Sebelius). The Democratic claim that a Justice Barrett would dismantle health care is nothing more than a politics-as-usual scare-tactic.

UNICORN FACT CHECK

Is There 'No Evidence' That a $15 Minimum Wage Wouldn't Kill Small Businesses?

During the final presidential debate, the candidates sparred over raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden ardently advocated for a full $15 federal minimum wage. He said, “There is no evidence that when you raise the minimum wage, business has gone out of business.”
Raising the federal minimum wage to $12 an hour would cost 1.3 million jobs according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). There’s no sugar-coating it. A $15 minimum wage at the federal level would be devastating for businesses and workers.

Not Your Mother’s Feminism

While all women don’t share her politics, all women can appreciate that Amy Coney Barrett has created a life for herself that in many ways embodies the progress women have made. It’s not a life every woman wants, but the model of success in two spheres, professional work and family life, appeals to the vast majority of women. Women don’t have to support Barrett’s politics or her nomination to recognize what she represents: A turning point for feminism, a chance to move forward. A chance to break the link between feminism and the radical left.

Joe Biden’s Misguided Proposals on College Loan Relief

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden wants a new program that would forgive up to $10,000 a year in college debt for those who go into “public service.” No surprise that the former Vice President wants to find a way to help people groaning under the burden of debt. But he’s not addressing the real root issues: Why has college tuition skyrocketed? And, most of all, what kind of adults, whether politicians or lenders, allow people in their late teens to take on crippling debt? And why do we not respect jobs that do not require a college degree? To find a solution to the college loan disaster, we need to think through our values, which created this monster in the first place.
