Friends,

I had the opportunity to meet Paul Wellstone when I became a National Youth Advocate for the American Diabetes Association.

I was a 16 year old from a small town, yet he prioritized speaking with me. He fit our meeting in even though he was needed on the floor for a vote.

His staff rushed me over to his office, and he spent 30 minutes talking to me about the pressing issues faced by people with diabetes. He shared his own health issues with me, and he made it clear why healthcare advocacy was important to him.

I will never forget Senator Wellstone taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak with me, a teenage girl.

In Congress, I will strive to live up to the standard he set. I will always put the people of our district first because I know “we all do better when we all do better.”
