John: Mike Espy — who's running for the U.S. Senate in Mississippi — is one of our best chances to flip the Senate blue. And right now, polls have him down in his race against Trump Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith by a single digit.
Mike's polling numbers are proof that Democrats can win in Mississippi, and that he has enough to make this race competitive already. But it's going to take a lot of money to put him over the top and get the job done.
I'm proud to have endorsed Mike. He is a trailblazer and a bold advocate for racial justice, equity, and health care. He's invested in making sure that all Mississippians have a good quality of life.
On the other hand, Cindy Hyde-Smith is working to rip health care away from millions of Americans and end protections for people with pre-existing conditions. She joined McConnell in blocking desperately needed coronavirus relief. Voting her into office for a six-year term can be detrimental to Mississippians and our democracy.
This race is winnable and we can flip the Senate. It just all depends on how we do at this critical moment.
If we want to fight for our progressive values, pass judicial reform, protect the Affordable Care Act, and more — we must take back the U.S. Senate from Republicans. Mike Espy is one of our best shots to do just that, but he can't win without our support.
