Did you see what happened in the debates last night?
Andrew Scheer had the audacity to suggest that Elizabeth doesn’t know what she’s talking about on international trade.
Debating policy is one thing, but questioning Elizabeth’s knowledge is not only misguided, it’s out of line.
This is Elizabeth May! An MP who has made more amendments to legislation—on every issue—than any other member in Canadian history. Who has been standing up for Canadians for over 30 years. Who was fighting to heed the science and protect the ozone layer on the world stage in the Montreal Protocol when Andrew was 8 years old.
Here’s what Scheer (and Trudeau) don’t seem to understand:
Elizabeth laid the truth bare: Scheer and Trudeau have the same climate targets as Harper—and they’re exactly half of what’s necessary to avert climate catastrophe.
She proved she’s the most experienced leader in Canada.
But Friend, outside that debate stage, taking on the Conservative and Liberal campaign machines will be much more difficult. They have massive war chests, campaign planes, political ads blanketing the country, and armies of campaign strategists crafting slick messaging designed to make Canadians vote based on fear, not on hope. On marketing, not on science.
We have something even more powerful: the truth.
And Green MPs will use the truth to hold the other parties’ feet to the fire in Ottawa.
We’re the only party with climate targets based on science, not politics. The only party with the courage to demand transformative social programs our society desperately needs. The party you can trust to fight for a renewed democracy, to put voters’ interests before corporate interests.
I hope Elizabeth made you proud to be Green last night.
