Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

On *Monday*, Governor DeWine spoke to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) about Ohio business development. Governor DeWine, also with JobsOhio CEO J.P Nauseef, advocated for the opportunity for Japanese businesses to expand into Ohio.

Also on*Monday,*Lt. Governor Jon Husted traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend a ceremony honoring the Dayton Police Officers [ [link removed] ] who bravely and quickly ended the deadly shooting in the Oregon District on August 4th. President Donald J. Trump recognized the officers with the Presidential Medal of Valor. Lt. Governor Husted met with the recipients in the White House following the ceremony and presented them with a commendation on behalf of both he and Governor DeWine.

On *Tuesday*, Governor DeWine visited Honda's headquarters in Tokyo. Honda celebrated it's 40th anniversary in Ohio, and currently employs over 15,000 Ohioans. The largest operation is in Marysville, Ohio, producing the Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe, along with the Acura TLX and ILX.

*Tuesday*afternoon, Governor DeWine also met with Governor Ono of Saitama Prefecture- Ohio's sister state for almost 30 years.
Also on*Tuesday*, Lt. Governor Husted and the Governors Office of Workforce Transformation helped launch a partnership [ [link removed] ] between Leading Age Ohio and Lorain County Community College for a new STNA and Healthcare Apprenticeship Program. Representatives of the Cleveland Clinic and Mercy Health attended and expressed how the program will help improve the number of people in the talent pipeline for in-demand healthcare jobs in Northeast Ohio.

On *Wednesday,*Governor DeWine met with Kao Brands in Tokyo. Kao Brands employs 700 people in the Cincinnati area. Kao Brands manufactures skin care and hair care products.

On *Thursday*,Governor DeWine also met with CEO Dr. Suzuki from Teijin, who employs over 2,200 Ohioans. Teijin produces materials for businesses and healthcare.

On *Friday*, Governor DeWine announced the creation of a statewideLead Advisory Committee aimed at preventing and treating lead poisoning, and advising on the states efforts to abate and remediate lead contamination. The committee is intended to build on the investments included in the budget to make more of Ohio's homes lead-safe for children and families.
