Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica was recently announced as the next World Surfing Reserve. But a WSR is more than a designation.

Once chosen, an intensive process begins by which Save The Waves and the Local Stewardship Council (LSC) come together to provide lasting protection for the surf ecosystem.

What is a LSC? It's a local team of surfers, conservationists, scientists, NGO’s, business leaders and others who form the group on the ground, working together to manage and steward the Reserve once it's established.
Recently, Save The Waves and the LSC have launched the Conceptual Model planning process. This is the first step an LSC takes towards the completion of their Stewardship Plan - the guiding document for the WSR's goals and activities.

In short, a WSR doesn't stop with an announcement. The work that comes next will help ensure pristine coastlines for future generations.
