BREAKING: Trump is considering an Executive Order that would make the case for expanding fossil fuel drilling.
According to news reports, this Executive Order would include an “analysis” of fracking’s economic impacts and the possible consequences of a ban. The real goal is giving a free pass to Big Oil & Gas, now and potentially for years to come.
Time is running out for Trump, and it’s clear that this is just one more desperate effort by the White House to make fracking into an election issue. There is zero doubt that fracking poisons our air and water, and that drilling for fossil fuels is driving climate chaos. We’ve known this for years. That’s why Food & Water Action has been fighting fracking for years — and winning. And we’ll continue to do so now.
We can’t — and we won’t — let Trump and his administration do more damage. Our grassroots movement is stronger than ever. Our organizers are in the field across the country, our activists are on Capitol Hill and our legal team is ready to fight any unlawful Executive Orders to protect our communities and planet.
Everywhere around the country, communities are suffering the consequences from fracking. They endure the environmental and social costs of this dangerous fossil fuel extraction method.
But the oil and gas industry has been lying to the public for years. It purposely misleads people into believing that natural gas is greener and cleaner than other polluting fossil fuels. It tries to sell us fracked gas as the “bridge fuel” to more renewable energy. In reality, fracking is a bridge to climate chaos!
Research from our affiliated organization Food & Water Watch recently highlighted how fracking is dramatically related to climate chaos:
Natural gas leaks are inevitable and occur at every stage of the sprawling natural gas network — from wells to pipelines to compressor stations to power plants — zeroing natural gas’ purported “climate benefits.”
Increasing natural gas production simply continues a never-ending bridge, displaces clean, renewable energy and locks in dirty fossil fuel infrastructure for decades.
Natural gas is mostly comprised of methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas with a footprint much worse than coal.
A true leader who has even the slightest concern for passing on a livable world to our children would work to wind down fossil fuels and create a just transition to a clean energy economy. Trump should be strengthening public health safeguards that protect our climate, food and water. Unfortunately this administration has had other plans. It is busy filling the pockets of Trump’s Big Oil & Gas cronies and leading us to more climate chaos.
We’ve been fighting Big Oil & Gas for years and winning. And we’re ready to keep fighting no matter what. We’ve already won many fights against the Trump administration’s dangerous environmental agenda, and with your support we will accomplish so much more!
