where I was two years ago when I first heard the news that a white
nationalist had opened fire in a Pittsburgh synagogue.

Like you, I will never forget where I was two years ago when I
first heard the news that a white nationalist had opened fire in a
Pittsburgh synagogue.
Two days later I was flying to Pittsburgh, meeting a group of Bend
the Arc leaders who — rooted in grief and purpose — would lead
an action against Trump’s visit that inspired people around the
world.
And they didn’t stop when the news cameras left. They joined with
other communities to deepen solidarity and fight for
a city that would care about every life lost, no exceptions.
A year later, I was back with this beloved team, again protesting
Trump’s visit to Pittsburgh, while he was there for a petrochemical
conference — as indifferent to the date as he is to all of our
suffering. Trump tried to mock us, but all it showed was his
callousness.
Today, I am proud to join with this group of leaders again,
this time not in protest, but in joyful resistance. Our
movements are winning a future where all of us can be free and safe.
Trump and his enablers know it, and they are trying everything to
cheat and hold onto power, no matter how many lives they put in harm’s
way. But we will not let them and we will win.
