I remember going with my mom to the polls in 2000. I was only 5, but even then it was clear voting is a Big Responsibility. And when I cast my ballot early for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Monday morning, I felt that same weight of responsibility. We the people choose the president.

From attacking mail-in ballots to refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, Donald Trump has made it crystal clear he doesn’t respect that fact. That’s why Stand Up America and our partners at Indivisible spearheaded Protect the Results, a coalition of over a hundred organizations that are ready to mobilize in the event that Trump tries to undermine the results of the election.

You may have read about troubling scenarios for Election Day and the days and weeks after. Now is the time to commit yourself to action. This week, the most important thing you and everyone else in your life can do is make a plan to vote. The larger Biden’s lead on election night and the days following, the less of a chance Trump will try to contest the results. 

But we can’t just hope for the best. We must plan for the worst. Nearly every day, on Twitter and at his rallies, Trump shows us that he’s trying to bully and cheat his way through this election.

People all around the country, just like you, believe that we must make sure every vote is counted and respected. There is power in numbers. We need you with us to make sure that Congress, the Electoral College, and state officials hear us loud and clear and honor the valid results of the election. 

It’s a funny thing to plan for mobilization that you dearly hope won’t have to take place, but being prepared for the worst is better than being caught flat footed.

Cast your ballot, then be ready to protect the results.
