Delegate Kimberly Teehee [[link removed]]

It may be 2019, but just this month, the Cherokee Nation named its first delegate to Congress! Kimberly Teehee , who's currently vice president of government relations for the Cherokee Nation and former senior policy adviser for Native American Affairs under Obama, was approved by the Cherokee Nation's council [[link removed]] in this historic act.
To say this was a long time coming would be an understatement. An 1835 treaty promised a delegate to the Cherokee Nation, but that role hadn't been filled—until now. (That's almost 200 years, if you're counting.) Delegate Teehee's role is a huge win for the Cherokee Nation and #PeopleLikeUs!

In a devastating decision on Wednesday, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to stop migrants from seeking asylum [[link removed]] in the United States if they passed through another country on their way to the U.S. This is a huge loss and will have a major impact on people fleeing unspeakable danger and violence.
Previously, people had the right to seek safety in the United States no matter how they arrived. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor noted in her dissent, the Supreme Court's action will "upend longstanding practices regarding refugees who seek shelter from persecution."
Note to the Court: Seeking asylum is a right . This decision and the Trump administration's practice are not only inhumane and an affront to #PeopleLikeUs and all Americans, but also go against our nation's values. Last time we checked, the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty is still, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”
