Very high coronavirus restrictions from 30 October
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire move to Tier 3 Very High restrictions for Covid-19
**A message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:**
Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council
Today we can announce that Nottingham will be moving into the Very High COVID alert level from one minute past midnight on Friday morning. The Government started talks with us last week about moving into the highest alert category. Although we are reluctant to move our city into this into this higher level of restrictions the high and increasing number of people in our hospitals testing positive for the virus means that we need to go further to stem the infection rate.
Tier Three is the right alert level for our city; although our rates are coming down they are still very high. No one would wish for the restrictions that come with Tier Three but I am pleased that the, albeit late, decision was made to include the whole of the county. Collectively we can work together to stem the virus and protect our most vulnerable people. We will be closely monitoring the impact of these new restrictions, which will be in place for the next 28 days and will be kept under review
The Tier 3 restrictions mean:
* People must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless they are part of their household or support bubble. This includes private homes and indoors in hospitality venues, such as pubs.
* People must not meet with people outside of their household or support bubble in a private garden or in most outdoor public venues.
* People can continue to see friends and family in groups of six or less that they dont live with (or have formed a support bubble with) in certain outdoor public spaces, such as a park or public garden.
* All pubs and bars must close unless they are serving substantial meals, such as a main lunchtime or evening meal. They can only serve alcohol as part of a meal. Pubs, bars and restaurants must still close between 10pm and 5am.
* Wedding receptions will not be permitted, but people can get married with a maximum of 15 people at the ceremony (check with the venue for additional restrictions).
* Avoid travelling outside the Very High alert area or entering a Very High alert level area, other than for work, education or for caring responsibilities, or to travel through as part of a longer journey.
* Avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK.
There are also some local restrictions specific to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire that can be found here: Nottingham: tier three [ [link removed] ]
As well as the new restrictions, please continue to:
* wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds
* wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will coming into contact with people you do not normally meet
* stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing a face covering, or increasing ventilation indoors).
People who have symptoms of Covid-19 high temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste or smell must self-isolate immediately and book a test online or by calling 119.

*Nottingham supports Marcus Rashfords holiday hunger campaign*
School children
I am proud that the Council has endorsed Marcus Rashfords campaign to tackle holiday hunger by making more money available to support families in need.
The Government had a clear opportunity to show its support for children who receive free school meals, but they voted to reject Marcus Rashfords bid to end holiday hunger. Nottingham City Council will not stand by while families go hungry. Im proud of the way our city established a strong network of community organisations during lockdown its what makes Nottingham such a great place. We will further invest in these groups to make sure that children and families are supported to get the help they need for the remainder of half-term and over the Christmas holidays.
Families with children who usually receive free school meals will qualify for a voucher to help ensure no child goes hungry this half term. Families who need this support can apply online from today by visitingwww.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/coronavirus [ [link removed] ] or calling our Customer Hub on 0115 915 5555.
Nottingham has an established network of foodbanks and Social Eating Spaces, to find out how to access or support your local one visit [link removed] [ [link removed] ]

*Support for local business *
Nottingham skyline
I know how frustrating and difficult COVID has been for businesses in our city. The Governments tier 2 restrictions have limited different households mixing indoors, significantly impacting many local businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors. The further restrictions coming into effect on Friday means restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs will potentially face a further drop off in trade at a crucial time as many of them are already fighting for survival.
This is why I wrote the Chancellor demanding more support for Nottinghams businesses and throughout discussions with Government over the last week, I have reiterated the need for an adequate financial package to protect jobs and livelihoods locally.
Since the announcement that Nottingham will enter Tier 3 restrictions we are receiving a large number of enquiries. We are awaiting further guidance on the package of support we will be able to offer to businesses and will announce this as soon as possible through the Nottingham Economic Recovery Unit [ [link removed] ] and Growing Nottingham newsletters [ [link removed] ].
While I welcome that after a lot of pressure the Government will be offering some additional support, I am concerned they are still underestimating the challenge businesses are facing and the support from them is simply not enough. I will continue to argue strongly for adequate business support funding to help the city through this extremely challenging time and to protect as many jobs as possible.
