My father served in World War II and the Korean War. He met my mother during his service, and despite serving honorably, my Black father and Korean mother both faced discrimination and hardship when they came home to the United States.

The opportunities they worked so hard to afford to me paid off. I am proud to have led my community through the last recession as the two-term Mayor of Tacoma.
