John,
With just days to go before the election, it feels important to note that election night will be different this year. We likely won’t know who has won the presidency on Tuesday night. And that’s okay.
Millions of voters are casting mail-in ballots this year. These will take a little longer to count, and it could take days or even weeks to get an accurate, final result.
You know that and I know that, but we also know there will be pressure to call the election as soon as possible. Which is why we need to demand that politicians, election officials, and journalists wait to report a winner until we have the final, correct results.
TAKE ACTION
Ensuring every vote is counted is critical.
If there is needless pressure to call the presidential race too early, we risk disenfranchising millions of Americans nationwide who voted by mail—and denying them their right to be heard in our democracy.
This is so important that we’re joining forces with other nonprofits to highlight this issue. While this may not seem like an issue we’d normally come to you about, we know that right now we need to present a unified front of organizations and people fighting for our rights. If you agree with us, please sign this petition and demand that every vote is counted before journalists and election officials call results.
For our democracy,
