THIS WEEK, the U.S. Senate completed its constitutional duties of advice and consent for a Supreme Court vacancy, confirming Amy Coney Barrett by a 52-48 vote. Justice Barrett was officially sworn onto the Supreme Court yesterday morning by Chief Justice John Roberts.
The United States Supreme Court gained an outstanding associate justice this week with Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation. As we heard repeatedly during her confirmation hearings, Justice Barrett will strive to uphold the original meaning and text of the Constitution, and she will help to restore the separation of powers between our three federal branches of government. Her presence and vote on the high court will be critical for forthcoming decisions in the decades ahead.
After attempting to brutally sabotage Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination just two years ago with a public spectacle in the Senate Judiciary Committee, Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media tried a different, more subtle tactic with Justice Barrett’s process, claiming that her nomination was illegitimate and threatening that they would fundamentally transform the federal courts should they retake all of Congress and the White House. Thankfully, President Trump, Leader McConnell, Chairman Graham, Senator Martha McSally and dozens of other Senate Republicans did not give into this partisan bluster.
I am confident in the job that Justice Amy Coney Barrett will do on the Supreme Court. Yet I am sad for the direction that radical Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media continue to take our nation. Since the nomination of Robert Bork in 1987, Democrats have sought to demonize and derail decent men and women on their ascent to our federal courtrooms. Democrats must stand down and stop their rabid, political gamesmanship with our courts. If not, they will destroy our nation from within.
