John -

We are six days from November 3, but election season is far from over. The Supreme Court's decision on Monday that allows Wisconsin to dismiss mail ballots received after Nov. 3 will mean that many voters votes will not be counted, and it will force more people to risk COVID exposure by voting in person. As we prepare for an extended vote-counting period, we also need to organize and mobilize our communities like never before.

The Partnership for Working Famiiles issued the statement below. Please join us in demanding that every vote is counted.

Every vote counts. Prepare to demand that every vote be counted.

We are joining together with people from all walks of life to vote in record numbers, demand that every single vote is counted, and protect our democracy. A healthy democracy that’s invested in the dignity of all of its members strives to make sure everyone who wants to vote gets to vote.

While we are moved to see people lining up for hours to vote, it shouldn’t be this way. Whether it’s long lines, intimidation tactics, or the Supreme Court allowing states to toss out ballots that are received after November 3, too many things stand in the way of democratic participation, especially for low-income Black and brown voters. That must change.

We will not rest until our states count every vote. We are prepared for this to take much longer than in past elections, due to COVID-19 precautions, the unprecedented number of mail-in-ballots, and varied rules and deadlines in different states. We are prepared to take to the streets and remain in the streets to ensure that every vote is counted, and we call on our movement partners to mobilize in mass numbers for that cause.

There is a role for everyone in protecting our democracy - whether you’re delivering PPE and water to voters in these final days of voting, or coordinating direct actions, or you’re elected officials passing resolutions affirming our right to protest, this moment calls on all of us to act. We the people are powerful. Whether we’re at the ballot box electing a government by and for us or in the streets demanding justice, we count on each other to deliver authentic democracy in our cities and country.

Thank you for all you're doing,
