John,
Last night, we watched 10 of the democratic presidential candidates debate over a multitude of issues like healthcare, racism, gun violence, immigration, climate change, education and international relations. With healthcare, candidates described how they wanted to decrease costs and protect those with pre-existing conditions. We heard candidates plans on police reform, expanding background checks on gun purchases, and increasing teacher wages. These are all issues that I care about, and ones that I believe all trans people care about. But missing from the discussion, for the third time in a row, was a thoughtful discussion about transgender equality.
This is why the NCTE Action Fund has launched Transform the White House, a multi-faceted campaign to get the current discriminatory administration out of office. Transgender people have experienced a constant onslaught of hostile actions and dangerous erosion of our rights under the Trump administration. It’s time for us to elect a president who cares about trans people, our families, and our allies.
So far we have released five videos interviewing candidates on what they’ll do to protect transgender rights and we intend to interview every candidate that we can. But we cannot do this without your help. Will you join us to ensure that we get every single candiate on video discussing their views and plan for transgender equality?
No matter who you support in this election, one thing is clear. We need to elect a President who will stand up for the trans community and will undo the damage caused by the current Administration. Your support will go directly toward this work and will enable us to enact more trans friendly policies at the federal level. Please join us in this movement today by making a gift to the NCTE Action Fund.
Thank you for your continued passion and support. Together we will Transform the White House in 2020.
In Solidarity,
Mara Keisling, Executive Director National Center for Transgender Equality National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund
