Dear friend,

Last night, GLAAD’s President Sarah Kate Ellis and I were in Houston for the third official Democratic Debate.  And while the 2020 candidates for President covered a number of important issues, LGBTQ people and the issues affecting our lives and our families were once again not on the agenda.

That’s unacceptable.  And it all changes one week from tonight.

Next Friday, GLAAD joins our partners at The Advocate, One Iowa, and The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to host the first 2020 Presidential Forum focused exclusively on topics that affect the LGBTQ community.  As the world watches, we will bring the issues that matter to LGBTQ and ally voters to the forefront of this race for the first time - issues like employment nondiscrimination, housing, conversion therapy, and the rise of hate and violence against LGBTQ people - especially trans women of color.

Vice President Joe Biden. Senator Cory Booker. Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Secretary Julian Castro. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. Senator Kamala Harris. Senator Amy Klobuchar. Congressman Joe Sestak. Senator Elizabeth Warren. Author Marianne Williamson.

They’ll all be there, and you can be a part of it too.  Here’s how.

Friend, the stakes could not be higher.  Donald Trump has attacked our community more than 124 times in rhetoric and record since taking office, and this is our first chance to hear from the other 2020 candidates how they will reverse the travesties of this Administration and put us back on a path to full equality and acceptance.  And it’s taking place in Iowa, where the first decisions will be made about who will carry our pro-equality agenda into the arena and go toe-to-toe with Trump next fall.

It’s time to tune in, turn up, and get ready to turn out. And it all starts next Friday night in Iowa.

In solidarity,

Zeke Stokes
