The Gun Debate

American Values is a non-profit organization. As such it cannot endorse or oppose candidates for public office. But it is allowed to debate issues, and one issue dominating the headlines today is gun control.

Just a little over three years ago, Hillary Clinton declared, "I'm not here to repeal the Second Amendment. I'm not here to take away your guns."

Today, it seems that many on the left do want to repeal the Second Amendment and take away our guns. For example, progressives are cheering calls to "license" gun owners and confiscate AR-15s.

The Second Amendment is a right, not a privilege like driving a car. But the left is also attacking the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

There are at least 15 million AR-15s ([link removed]) in the United States. Anyone evil enough to go into a shopping center to kill dozens of people is not going to give up their gun. Anyone willing to give up their gun because the law requires it is not going to commit a mass shooting.

All the left's gun-grabbing will accomplish is the disarming of law-abiding Americans.



America's Energy Miracle

The United States is in the middle of the energy revolution. In June, we surpassed Saudi Arabia ([link removed]) as the world's leading exporter of oil. OPEC and Russia are slashing production in order to prop up oil prices. This success is due largely to modern technological miracles like fracking.

Remember not long ago when gas prices were twice what they are today? Remember the left's response? Barack Obama ([link removed]) said, "We can't just drill our way out of the problem."

Well, he was wrong. That's exactly what we did!

And the left is just as wrong today when it demands that we surrender this tremendous achievement. As I noted last week, Russia would love ([link removed]) to see us enact the policies advanced by the radical environmentalist movement.



Values Voter Summit
