That's how many votes the Republican candidate in a Florida state House race won by in 2018. In another race, it was just 54 votes. In a 2017 Virginia House of Delegates race, the winner of a majority-determining tie was literally drawn out of a bowl.

Down-ballot races are always important, but they're even more so this year. Whichever party takes control of state legislatures in 2020 will have the upper hand in the redistricting process in 2021. These races can be won and lost on razor-thin margins, which means every dollar spent can go a long way.

We've already invested millions of dollars to flip state legislatures in nine states and have endorsed over 250 down-ballot candidates. But I have to be honest with you -- there's only a week left before voting ends, and Democrats are trailing the Republican dark money machine in critical states.
