Hey there — Did you read Ed’s email yesterday? He’s dedicated to fighting for gun violence prevention, and it’s time for the Senate to follow suit and vote on the background check legislation that Ed and his colleagues passed months ago.

Team —

This summer, we saw too many headlines about mass shootings — guns are still falling into the wrong hands because our background check system is failing us.

I was proud to help pass expanded background check legislation in the House earlier this year. But Mitch McConnell is refusing to call this legislation for a vote in the Senate because he’s waiting for the President to tell him what to do. That is failed leadership.

That’s why I’m looking for 10,000 activists to sign my petition demanding that the Senate vote to expand background checks and close the loopholes that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands.

With my colleagues and I back in Washington after spending August in our districts, we’ve heard a resounding message from Americans everywhere: it’s time for Congress to take action to prevent gun violence in our communities.

Over the summer, my friend and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords joined us at a rally in Aurora, where she encouraged us to “be bold, be courageous” in our fight to end gun violence. If anyone knows bold and courageous, it’s Gabby.

As Vice-Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I’ve co-sponsored several pieces of gun safety legislation — including efforts to keep guns out of the hands of those with a history of mental illness, substance abuse, or violence.

My colleagues in the House and I will keep up our fight this week — but it’s time for Mitch McConnell and his allies to show some leadership and join us in passing the background check legislation the House has already sent them. Add your name to join our call to action→
