Yes, Friend, HB6 has
not been repealed yet.
But today's lawsuit filed to prevent the some of the
damaging affects of HB6 is the best news we've
heard since Larry Householder's arrest. Columbus and Cincinnati
officials argue the nuclear energy fee created through HB6 is an
unconstitutional tax, given its allegedly corrupt
origins.
City officials said they’re looking for the courts to
intervene since the state legislature has yet to act, despite calls by
Gov. Mike DeWine and others to repeal the bill.
Ohioans shouldn't fund the spoils
of FirstEnergy's massive corruption scandal.
“They spent last year getting everything they
wanted.”
There's a lot riding on
the effort to repeal HB6. It's staggering to see the numbers. Laura Bischoff from the Dayton Daily
News wrote this overview yesterday about what's at
stake:
"There is more
than $2 billion riding on whether HB6 remains Ohio law or is
repealed. The law requires payments by customers across Ohio:
-
$1.3 billion to subsidize nuclear power plants owned
by Energy Harbor, through 2027;
-
$444 million to subsidize coal plants owned by Ohio
Valley Electric Corp. through 2030;
-
$355 million in ‘decoupling’ revenues to FirstEnergy
through 2024; and
- $140
million in subsidies for large solar projects though
2027."
Ohio Citizen Action's Executive Director, Rachael Belz, told
Bischoff, “'[FirstEnergy and Energy Harbor] spent last year getting
everything they wanted ... why has the House not repealed HB6? Why
have they not taken any real action?'”
We call upon the Ohio General Assembly to repeal
HB6
This effort is not over - Governor Mike DeWine has signaled
that we can see action taken during the lame duck session after the
election.
Please help us make sure Speaker Bob Cupp and the
legislature gets our message loud and clear. Make a contribution of
any size to keep our work going strong.
Thank you to all of you who have spoken out and
and stood up for justice. It's working.
