Dear John,
As Iranians struggle with a new COVID-19 spike and medicine shortages, our elected officials in the U.S. should be easing inhumane sanctions—not escalating them. Instead, the Trump administration recently announced new sanctions targeting the few remaining Iranian banks that can facilitate humanitarian trade.
Many of us have loved ones who are bearing the burden of Trump’s sanctions—struggling to make ends meet and worried that they won’t be able to find the medicine that they depend on. It isn’t easy, but we are in this together and must do what is possible on our side to ensure our government is not punishing innocent Iranians in our name.
We're pleased to announce that Rep. Chuy García (D-IL) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) are organizing efforts to call on the Trump administration to issue a new general license to exempt humanitarian trade with U.S.-sanctioned countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is an easy step that the administration could take to lessen the plight of the Iranian people in their hour of need. But we need your help to urge lawmakers to sign on to Warren and García's efforts.

Ultimately, ending broad, inhumane sanctions against the Iranian people requires we elect new leaders. That’s why NIAC Action volunteers across the country are working overtime to defeat Trump and deliver new leadership in the Senate. If we succeed, we are confident the U.S. can establish humanitarian channels and lift sanctions that have harmed so many innocent people by rejoining the nuclear deal.

Please, urge your elected officials to sign the García-Warren letter and then let's roll up our sleeves and finish this election strong.
Sincerely,
Jamal Abdi
