Dear John,
Yesterday was a dark day for our democracy. Senate Republicans completed their sham confirmation process for Amy Coney Barrett — confirming her just 8 days before the election ends, when more than 60 million Americans have already cast their ballots.
This is what Trump, Mitch McConnell, and Senate Republicans chose to do instead of working to deliver desperately needed relief to the American people as the pandemic continues to surge.
Cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are spiking in nearly every state in the country, and experts warn that we’re headed for the worst of the pandemic yet.
And what is Trump doing about it? Blaming the media, blaming his own officials, and throwing in the towel. His own Chief of Staff even said that “we’re not going to control the pandemic.”
Our latest video provides an updated month-by-month account of how Trump’s malicious incompetence has killed nearly 230,000 Americans and sent the economy into a tailspin.
The United States is supposed to be a world leader. The president of the United States is supposed to keep Americans safe.
But America has suffered the worst rate of coronavirus deaths among all advanced countries — a death toll equal to 9/11 every three days.
This is not leadership. It is pure, malicious incompetence and it’s killing Americans.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. We have one week left to hold Trump and his lackeys accountable for abandoning the American people.
Let’s make every second count.
Thanks for watching,
Robert Reich
