------------------------------------------------------------
Dear John,
We just got the news: The Alberta Court of Appeal has set Feb. 22, 2021, as the date to begin hearings against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s anti-pipeline law and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation will be there to deliver arguments for taxpayers.
It can’t come soon enough. Ottawa passed Bill C-69, which they called the Impact Assessment Act (but a more accurate name would be the No More Pipelines and Major Projects Act). Even before the pandemic, this law made it harder to grow our economy, create jobs and generate revenue to fund important services.
The CTF calculated that the pipeline deficit has already cost taxpayers more than $6 billion since 2013 and that cost is growing by more than $3 million every day. That’s a ton of money that could be used to build more hospitals or lower taxes.
We’re proud to be in the fight to stick up for Canadian workers and taxpayers. Lawyers aren’t cheap, but our supporters made it clear we need to be in that court room so we made it a priority.
The government should be supporting Canadian resource development and taxpayers, not passing laws that kill jobs and make it easier for foreign countries to out-compete us.
Thanks for standing up for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!
Sincerely,
* Aaron, Franco, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team.
