By now, you probably know that the Republican-controlled Senate rammed through President Trump’s far-right nominee to the Supreme Court yesterday, defying the will of the American people as well as precedent established by Mitch McConnell and the GOP in 2016.

While Republicans succeeded in their sham confirmation, Democratic Senators stood strong and opposed the nomination, even those like Senators Doug Jones of Alabama and Gary Peters of Michigan who are facing tough re-election campaigns against well-funded Republican challengers.

Both of these Senators voted to save the Affordable Care Act when Republicans nearly succeeded in repealing it in Congress. And when the GOP rushed Trump’s nominee through Senate confirmation so they could have a 6-3 conservative majority to dismantle the ACA, Doug and Gary made it clear from the beginning that they would oppose this confirmation. And yesterday, they followed through.

It takes courage to stand on the right side of history and vote in the best interest of the people. Both Senators are facing an onslaught of attacks from national Republican groups and McConnell’s Super PACs dumping millions of dollars into their races, and there’s no doubt the GOP will try to use the Senators’ SCOTUS votes against them.

We have just seven days left to do what we can to flip the Senate, and if we’re going to succeed, we need to re-elect principled, courageous leaders like Doug and Gary to the Senate.
