Dear Comrade,
Our October General Meeting was extremely productive; 58 of our comrades attended and learned about the history of ring wing militias, we passed two exciting resolutions, reformed our health justice committee, and had a really successful neighborhood organizing session.
If you weren't able to attend, here’s the rundown of everything we covered:
Coordinating Committee Open Slots: The Coordinating Committee has SIX slots open (Communications Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, and 4 Members At Large). Currently there are 4 men in CC meaning there are only 2 available slots for a comrade that identifies male. Please email [email protected]
Another announcement is that for the end of 2020 the CC will meet once a month instead of twice and decide by Jan 2021 to decide if it should continue meeting at that pace.
Political Education Segment: We would like to thank our Political Education Committee for providing a segment on Militias and their relationship with Right Wing Political Movements. If you're interested in this topic, here is the recording of that segment: https://youtu.be/67Y3lSsRsTo. You can also find this segment on our website under "Resources."
Pittsburgh DSA joins the People Over Petro Coalition: Our membership voted to pass a resolution signing us onto the People over Petro Coalition. This coalition is actively fighting the proposed petrochemical buildout in the region. It includes various Environmental Nonprofit and frontline groups. For more information on the coalition go to https://peopleoverpetro.org/
Health Care Justice Committee Reforms: Our chapter voted on approving the charter of the reformed Health Justice Committee which has spent the last year as a working group under the Elections and Pressure Campaigns Committee. Follow the #health_justice channel on the chapter slack and keep an eye out on the calendar for health justice committee meetings if you want to get involved!
Neighborhood Organizing: Our breakout session for the meeting was focused on organizing in your neighborhood with your comrades. There will be a Neighborhood Organizing Call Thursday Oct 28th at 7 PM where people can have more time to meet with their neighbors and get onboarded to the various local neighborhood signal groups. RSVP here!
Next General Meeting: Our Chapter’s November General Meeting will be Tuesday November 17th at 7 PM; details on the meeting content to come as it gets closer. To receive the zoom information for meeting RSVP at: https://bit.ly/PGHDSANov2020GeneralMeeting
The CC has also decided that for the rest of the 2020-21 term that meetings will meet on an alternating schedule. In odd months the General Meeting will be on the third Tuesday evenings, while even months meetings will be held on the following Saturday morning (ie December’s Meeting will be the 19th at 10 AM).
We hope to see you at our November meeting!
In Solidarity,
Pittsburgh DSA
