Dear friend,
Last night, we watched the third presidential debate (yes, all three hours of it) -- ten candidates stood before us and asked us to believe in their vision of America. Presidential elections are a referendum on our country and our idea of what it means to be a member of this democracy. And this time around, people of color, women of color, and young people are speaking up louder than ever. Demanding answers and plans and policy platforms.
Yet, many of the candidates spent their precious airtime talking about what they would do differently from Donald Trump. They spent a lot of time talking about how they would be a different type of leader who is more courageous and gets things done.
There was not a single question asked about pay equity, child care costs, abortion, paid family leave, or black maternal mortality -- all issues that specifically impact women of color. There was no real conversation about women at all, even with two female candidates on stage.
We’re tired of hearing promises without plans. We’re tired of the needs of women, especially women of color, being ignored.
It’s why re:power is staying laser focused on training our people, especially women of color, to agitate, organize, and lead in our communities. Our commitment to building power in communities of color goes beyond skills building and training; it means that we’re equipping folks with the political education, language, and courage to call truth to power when it’s necessary.
Can you support us with a gift of $25 today? Your donation will help us put together trainings across the country, focused on getting our people excited, organized, and ready to win. [link removed]
As we head into the thick of the election cycle, we’re planning on visiting as many cities across the country as we can, to meet organizers and activists who want to learn more about running inclusive campaigns, building grassroots digital and data programs, and raising money for candidates, rooted in values.
We’ve got a long year ahead of us -- so let’s do this -- chip in $25 or more today and help us make this happen. [link removed]
