The destruction of the Amazon is the direct result of an intricate network of financial institutions and the companies they invest in that produce and export conflict commodities. Our latest report, Complicity in Destruction III, reveals how six U.S.-based financial institutions are linked to conflicts on Indigenous lands, illegal deforestation, land grabbing, and the weakening of environmental protections.
We found that BlackRock, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Vanguard, Bank of America, and Dimensional Fund Advisors contributed more than $18 billion to nine companies linked to conflicts on Indigenous lands between 2017 and 2020.
Without this constant flow of financing, companies with ties to Indigenous rights violations and conflicts in Indigenous territories would not be able to operate.
Demand that these U.S. financial institutions stop being complicit in the destruction of the Amazon!
