At a time when the coronavirus ([link removed]) and the upcoming election ([link removed]) are dominating the news cycle, The Hechinger Report continues to shine a light on the inequality that permeates education. This week, we look at the unequal opportunities available to students in career and technical education (CTE). A Hechinger Report/Associated Press analysis of CTE enrollment data from 40 states found that Black and Latino students are often less likely ([link removed]) than their white peers to enroll in science, technology, engineering and math and information technology classes.

Such disparities can narrow young people’s career paths, as can antiquated approaches to teaching chemistry and other science topics ([link removed]) and middle school math classes that separate students by perceived ability ([link removed]) . We’ll continue to tell these stories, and, as always, look forward to hearing yours.
