Hi friend --
White House health advisors have co-authored “a scientific treatise that calls for allowing the coronavirus to spread naturally in order to achieve herd immunity -- the point at which enough people have been infected to stall transmission of the pathogen in the community,” according to The New York Times.
But Dr. Anthony Fauci has denounced the so-called Great Barrington Declaration as “dangerous” and “total nonsense” -- because the concept of herd immunity simply doesn’t apply in this context. An infectious disease expert from Harvard explains it like this: “You don’t roll out disease -- you roll out vaccination.”
Trump’s health officials think that to contain the pandemic, “young people should be free to resume normal life … They would become infected, hopefully without much illness, and gain immunity.” That may sound like butterflies and rainbows, but we know the truth: being young does not protect people from severe COVID-19 complications. In fact, statistics show that 20% of COVID deaths are people under 65 -- and survivors have been known to experience symptoms for weeks, sometimes months, after recovery. At this point, there is no telling what the long-term health effects of COVID-19 actually are.
Listen, you know better than to think we can just “resume normal life” because the Trump administration prioritizes its economy over the lives of the American people. But Dr. Fauci and other scientists are being drowned out by the other side -- they need our support now more than ever. Let them know that some Americans still believe in science. Tell us:
Do you believe the US should strive for herd immunity without a vaccine?
