John,

It's not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the most competitive -- and expensive -- races in the nation. Just take a look at these numbers from the Virginia Public Access Project, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that tracks political ad spending:

Spending on Pro-Taylor or Anti-Luria ads [Source: vpap.org]

Sept 28th - Oct 11th: Scott Taylor ($112,652) + Outside groups ($636,014)

Oct 12 - Election Day: Scott Taylor ($181,088) + Outside groups ($380,926)

Total for the cycle: $3,171,722

We're just a week from Election Day, and my opponent former Republican Congressman Scott Taylor and his dark money allies have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars against me.

I'm counting on individual supporters like you to help me fight back. This team doesn't need special interest donors or GOP super PACs, we just need people like you -- so today, will you chip in just $5 to make sure we have the resources to defend this toss-up seat?

We're facing an uphill battle and a mountain of outside spending -- but we've defied the odds before because we have an army of folks like you who refuse to back down from the tough fights.

And together, I know that we can win again this November.

Thank you,

Elaine Luria
