The Trump Administration wants to restrict food stamps for millions of Americans.

Maryland is one of the country’s wealthiest states, but still, one in eight Maryland households grapples with hunger.

Eliminating the pain of hunger in America should always be in the forefront of our minds and actions. However, the Trump Administration is seeking to severely restrict one of our most critical and effective safeguards against hunger: the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

I need you to raise your voice: Add your name to mine if you oppose the Trump Administration’s attack on SNAP.

The SNAP program -- more commonly known as food stamps -- provides more than 40 million low-income Americans, including 650,000 Marylanders, with food assistance. However, the White House Administration’s new proposal would restrict eligibility requirements and cause roughly 3 million Americans, including 50,000 Marylanders, to lose their benefits.

This proposal is cruel. Because 80% of SNAP households include a senior, someone with a disability, or a child, the proposal would disproportionately affect the most vulnerable among us.

This proposal is senseless. SNAP has helped 3.4 million people out of poverty, and it has improved high school graduation rates, adult earnings, and health.

Congress has already rejected this proposal once before. The Trump Administration cannot circumvent congressional authorization.

This Administration has made its disregard for the welfare of our people -- and our law -- quite clear. Now, we must again fight for what is right.

I’m personally asking: Will you join me in standing up for the most vulnerable in our communities? Sign your name today.

Thank you,

Elijah
