Defender,
This year’s elections are already unlike anything we have seen before.
With millions choosing to vote by mail, lines at the polls running for miles, and early voting occurring at record highs, election season has already begun. And with so many challenges facing our election infrastructure, we almost certainly will not know the results of the elections in many states on Nov. 3rd. In fact, it may take days, weeks, or even months for the results to be finalized – and that is okay.
The two most important things you can do this election season are (1) make a plan to vote and (2) demand that every single eligible voter has their vote counted.
Scientists have found that making a plan to vote significantly increases the likelihood that you’ll actually cast your vote. With new state and county specific rules on mail-in and in-person voting due to COVID-19, it is more critical than ever that you are prepared ahead of time.
After casting your vote, please help ensure election officials follow their duty to count every vote. Fewer than normal numbers of elections judges, enhanced security procedures to verify mail-in ballots, and laws that prohibit the counting of mail-in ballots until election day may threaten your right to be heard. It is up to all of us to demand our votes are counted despite those challenges.
With these challenges in mind, it is more important than ever to #VoteforWildlife.
Our environment, our economy, and our civil rights depend on a healthy democracy where the people freely and fairly choose their leaders. No matter the outcome of our elections, wildlife is better off when everyone’s voice is heard.
Please join me this election season in voting for wildlife and ensuring that every vote counts.
Thank you,
