Right in Montana, Too

What to Know: Montana’s Frontier Institute is joining with TPPF to bring Right on Healthcare to that state. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: States should not wait on the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on Obamacare; they can begin reforming their own health care systems now.

“Right on Healthcare looks forward to partnering with the Frontier Institute to tackle the unique health care challenges facing rural states like Montana,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “Putting patients back in charge of their own health care will help lower costs and increase access for all Americans.

The Insatiable Seven

What to Know: Seven Texas school districts will ask voters to support big tax hikes in November. ([link removed] ) These districts include: Eanes ISD; Fort Worth ISD; Garland ISD; Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips CISD; Rains ISD; Northwest ISD; and Arlington ISD.

The TPPF Take: Hard times and high unemployment are not enough to deter a handful of tax-hungry school districts.

“Texans are living through the worst economic downturn in a generation, yet some school districts seem unwilling to exercise restraint,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “The liberal tax-and-spend mindset that permeates Texas public education must change. Struggling taxpayers cannot afford these insatiable governments.”

Foster Care

What to Know: A San Antonio Express-News editorial is calling for the state of Texas to work harder to implement reforms to its foster care system. ([link removed] )

The TPPF Take: Safeguards for children in foster care must be strengthened, and we must work harder to get children out of foster care and into permanent homes.

“Permanency has been prioritized in policy but not in practice,” says TPPF’s Charissa Huntzinger. “Through specific court deadlines, prioritizing family rehabilitation, and emphasizing monitored returns, the child welfare system can help foster youth gain stable biological or adoptive families quicker.”
