Hi John,
I was proud of my son when he bought a commercial fishing boat at age 14. I was proud of him when he put himself through medical school and became Dr. Al Gross. But I have never been more proud than I am today, watching my son run for U.S. Senate. I have always supported Al in all his endeavors, but watching him fight for reproductive freedom and women's rights is particularly special to me, both as a mom and as a woman. When I was growing up, abortion was illegal almost everywhere, but that changed in 1973 when Roe v. Wade guaranteed women the right to choose. But now it's 2020, and we're still fighting the same battle I was helping lead nearly 50 years ago when I founded the Alaska League of Women Voters. Leaders at all levels have repeatedly tried to block access to abortion across the country. Congress has attempted to defund Planned Parenthood every chance they get. And just last night, Donald Trump succeeded in appointing Amy Coney Barrett -- a staunch opponent of choice -- to the Supreme Court in an effort that could soon overturn Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, Dan Sullivan has done absolutely nothing to stop any of it. In fact, he's part of the problem, voting against women's rights time and time again. (He even has a 0% rating from both Planned Parenthood Action Fund and NARAL.) My granddaughters, daughter-in-law, and women across the state and country agree: Dan Sullivan is anti-choice, and we can't count on him to fight for us. So, I sat down to talk about why my son, Dr. Al Gross, is the right choice for Alaska -- and for all of us.
