As we're entering the final week of this campaign, I wanted to reflect a little bit on why I decided to get into this race in the first place. As a combat veteran and working mom, I understand the challenges Texas families deal with every single day. And it was clear to me that Sen. Cornyn doesn't.

It's no surprise that Sen. Cornyn votes the way he does when you look at who's funding his campaign. Over nearly 20 years in Washington, he's accepted enormous amounts of money from special interests like the insurance industry, Big Pharma, and the private detention industry.
So frankly, it's no wonder he championed the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, watered down drug pricing legislation, and blocked bipartisan immigration reform bills. Those votes may not serve Texans' interests, but they sure do help Sen. Cornyn's big donors.
When it comes down to it, that's why I decided to run. Texans need a senator who will fight for our families -- meaning expanding health care with a public option for everyone who wants it, lowering prescription drug costs, and finally making sure DREAMers have a pathway to citizenship in the only country they've ever known.
As Texas' next senator, I'll always put working families first -- because my family is one of those families. But Sen. Cornyn and his donors aren't going to give up easily. They're spending millions on misleading ads, trying to scare Texans into re-electing him. And I need your help to fight back.
