Dear John,

Millions of kids go hungry in the UK.

In one of the richest nations in the world, there is no excuse. Even before COVID struck, food poverty was on the rise.

Shamefully, the government has refused to give kids the food they need. It is simply a failure to protect the most vulnerable in our society.

And the failure to progress talks with the EU is yet another. If the government won’t feed hungry kids, they could at least ensure food doesn’t also become more expensive for us all.

The Affordable Food Deal has been warning of skyrocketing prices since the summer, and the damage this will do to struggling families. Without a free trade deal with Europe, tariffs will be applied to much of our food, and on-the-shelf prices will rise.

Send a message to your MP, and call on them to keep food affordable. The UK’s food poverty crisis has already been compounded by COVID. Let’s make sure vulnerable families aren’t dealt another blow. Send a message today.

Marcus Rashford’s campaign has been inspirational. But why should it fall to a footballer to help hungry kids? Where is the leadership in this time of national crisis? The government must step up and deliver an Affordable Food Deal.

As the Affordable Food Deal report shows, the only way to avoid rising food prices is striking a comprehensive deal. We buy food like tinned tomatoes, pasta and baked beans from Europe. So, without a free trade deal, they will be subjects to taxes.

Two and a half million children live with hunger in this country. With parents doing everything in their power to put food on the table, any cost of living increases will be devastating.

Best for Britain wants to provide the facts to our representatives, call on them to follow their conscience. And you can help.

Make sure your MP has read our report, which shows why we need an Affordable Food Deal – and who will pay the price if our leaders fail to get one. Send our report to you MP now.

The government has shown a callous disregard for the most vulnerable and blameless in our society. Its refusal to give food to needy kids, and its inaction towards striking a deal which will keep food affordable, paint a troubling picture.

Let’s hope the government has found its conscience by Christmas, delivered the deal we were promised, and guaranteed food for hungry children.

Best wishes,

Naomi Smith,
CEO, Best for Britain
