Hi John,
Today, the Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
Thanks to Republicans' shameless partisanship, the vote passed. Republicans proved that advancing their priorities will always come before concern for the will of the people, before the very precedent that they set.
And in confirming this nominee, Republicans have condemned Roe v. Wade, and with it, the right to make our own health care decisions.
I know that many of you are scared right now. Scared of far-right politicians clawing back the rights and protections over our bodies that we have spent generations fighting for. I know just how personal, how fundamental, and how necessary the right to choice is.
You see, over 20 years ago, I found myself on the verge of death.
While 35 weeks pregnant, I went into labor with my first child. After 14 hours in labor while suffering multiple seizures and fighting to hang on to my life, my beautiful, healthy daughter was delivered.
When I became pregnant again, my husband, doctor, and I all sat down and discussed what this meant. We all very well knew that this pregnancy could leave me dead and my daughter without a mother.
I made the choice to continue with the pregnancy. Today, I am a profoundly proud mom to two daughters. And when looking back at that decision, I am eternally grateful that I had the option to discuss other possibilities with my husband and my doctor.
And I know that there are a thousand other reasons a person may choose to end a pregnancy. Those reasons are personal, and they are valid. And no one -- no one -- should be able to decide otherwise.
We know what happens when safe, legal abortions are not accessible. We know that people, mostly women, suffer. We cannot afford to go back.
We can no longer trust that the Supreme Court will protect our reproductive rights. So we need to elect leaders who will -- with or without Roe.
In Congress, I will fight like hell to protect reproductive rights -- because everyone should be able to exercise the same choice I had. Can you pitch in $5 to help me get to Washington?

For me, for my daughters, and for your kids -- thank you.
