Jack:
I wanted to check in as soon as I got off the Senate floor. 52 Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, just voted to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court.
I am frustrated, and frankly, very angry.
The single best thing we can do to fight back—and protect the rights that are now in jeopardy—is to take back the Senate. Please: Rush a donation to my Off the Sidelines Flip the Senate Fund today. Let’s send our Democratic candidates the last-minute resources they need to WIN their races and take back the Senate.
The American people believe in access to reproductive care, in equal rights for the LGBTQ community, and in science. And they believe that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat should have been filled by a justice who shares those values—appointed by the next president, and confirmed by the next Senate.
It did not have to be this way. But Senate Republicans openly and unapologetically defied the will of the American people—all to further their extreme, conservative agenda.
Where does this vote leave us? To start, it leaves us with Amy Coney Barrett poised to be sworn in just in time to rule on the fate of the Affordable Care Act and perhaps this very election. That’s a frightening possibility.
But we are also eight days away from the election. There is still time to make sure we take back the Senate.
I cannot think of a more powerful way to honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy than by electing strong, progressive leaders to the Senate who will fight with everything in their being to protect her legacy. Let’s get it done. Please, rush an emergency donation to my Off the Sidelines Flip the Senate Fund.
I'm ready to fight. Are you?
