Over the weekend, I read an L.A. Times article about Latino voters that filled me with a renewed sense of hope.
As Gustavo Arellano writes, for too long Latinos have been regarded as the "'sleeping giant' of the American electorate." However, President Donald Trump and his anti-immigrant Administration have managed to wake the giant -- and I couldn't be more proud.
While the majority of eligible white and Black Americans vote, historically, Latinos have not turned out in the same force.
That is, until now.
In his article, Arellano writes about a Mexican-American family from Lakewood, CA, that just voted for the first time after living in the United States for nearly 30 years. I was so excited to see that they even had a Linda Sánchez sign in their front yard! As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, stories like this motivate and inspire me every single day in Congress.
I am honored to fight alongside the gente decente who came to this country to make a better life for their families. And, I watch with pride as my Latino brothers and sisters use their voices to create positive change in this country -- a country that has all too often sidelined them.
As long as I represent the people of CA-38, I promise to amplify the voices of our immigrant communities -- but, first, I need to win re-election.
Will you help send me back to Congress on November 3rd, by chipping in anything you can right now?
Glad to have you in this fight,
-- Linda Sánchez
