Tonight, I voted against the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

By rushing through a nomination just days before an election, in the midst of a deadly pandemic, Mitch McConnell is dragging the Supreme Court down to the decadent level of the Senate, turning it into another politicized body, distrusted – for good reason – by the people it’s meant to serve.

As I said on the Senate floor last night, it’s common these days to observe that our institutions are failing. But institutions don’t fail on their own. They can’t destroy themselves; it takes people to destroy them.

Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of grinding our democracy into rubble, and creating an America that serves the wealthy and well connected, leaving working and middle-class families out to dry.

In eight days, however, we have an opportunity to throw Mitch McConnell and his majority out. We have an opportunity to elect Joe Biden president. If we can accomplish these goals, we can stop the institutional rot in the White House and the Senate, and reclaim our democracy to ensure that it works for everyone.

Tonight’s vote shows why we need to retake our Senate majority more than ever before, but I need your help to do that.

Earlier this month, my finance team and I came up with an ambitious goal of raising $70,000 before election day to defeat Mitch McConnell and flip the Senate blue. We’re over halfway to that goal, but time is running out fast. If you’re in a position to give, pitching in $10 or $25 would make a huge difference in our fight. Can I count on you?
