We didn’t want to have to send this email, but here we are: minutes ago, the Senate voted to confirm Trump’s nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, to the Supreme Court.

For the last five weeks, Indivisibles have worked day and night to protect Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s progressive legacy -- but we lost this one. Senate Republicans -- including 11 of our 12 Payback Project targets -- ignored constituent pressure and their own precedent so they could build an ultra-conservative majority on the bench. Their plan, as Mitch McConnell put it, is that Democrats “won’t be able to do much about this for a long time to come.”

But that’s where they’re wrong. We’re angry, and scared, and horrified, yes. But we know how to channel that into action: the first thing we can do is vote them out. We’ve been working to replace these senators for months, and now it’s clearer than ever that we need to elect candidates who are ready to represent the people and defend our democracy.

In the next eight days, we’ll be running multiple phonebanks a day, sending thousands of text messages, and having deep conversations with loved ones to turn out as many votes as possible and deliver wins up and down the ballot. And in key Payback states like Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia, our efforts will be the difference between winning and losing.

We’ve known we need to replace the worst of the GOP’s worst for years now, but this confirmation is a new low even for them. They’ve made it clear that their only commitment is to enabling Trump and capitulating to corporate greed -- and they think that this illegitimate sham of a confirmation process will stop us.
