John, just moments ago, the Senate voted to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court, guaranteeing an ultra-conservative, 6-3 majority.
It's the final chapter in an illegitimate process that the majority of Americans opposed. But we know what's really behind this: The Republican Party knows their ideas do not have popular support, so they are desperately seeking to win through this illegitimate appointment what they no longer can win on the ballot.
While we remain laser-focused on turning out as many people to vote on or before November 3rd as possible so we can expand progressive power in the House, flip the Senate, and remove Donald Trump forever — it's clearer than ever that we will need to rebalance the Supreme Court as well. And we have to start laying the groundwork for that fight now.
Will you add your name to our petition calling on Congress to rebalance the court by increasing the number of Supreme Court justices?

This is not a radical idea. Congress is well within its rights to expand the Supreme Court under Article III of the Constitution. It has fluctuated in size from as few as five to as many as 10 before settling at the current number of nine justices.
All Congress needs to do is pass a bill and have the President sign it into law. And by increasing the number of seats, we can ensure that the highest court in the nation isn't overtaken by an extremist majority for decades to come.
Today's confirmation vote brings us one step closer to an increasingly likely outcome: An extremist majority on the Supreme Court that is able to destroy the rights we've won and block the things we need to make this a nation that cares for all of us.
This is an all hands on deck moment, John. Add your name to our petition demanding that Congress expand the Supreme Court.

This is not the outcome we wanted. But we cannot succumb to cynicism and despair. We must organize like our lives depend on it, for as long as it takes.
