Like 133 million Americans, I know what it's like to have the label "pre-existing condition" attached to my care — and before the Affordable Care Act was passed, many of us could be denied coverage.

So, you can imagine my frustration when the Trump administration backed a legal assault on our entire health care system, which the Supreme Court will hear exactly one week after Election Day.

With Amy Coney Barrett now tilting the balance, the court’s decision could completely upend the ACA and end its protections for people with pre-existing conditions — in the middle of a pandemic.

Look, if we win this election, we will have an opportunity to protect and expand health care for millions of Americans. That's why I’m working my tail off to make sure we defeat Trump and end Mitch McConnell’s failed Senate majority in just a few days.

I got into public service because I saw my grandparents stay up nights, worried sick that I would fall ill again and they wouldn't be able to afford my care. No one should ever have to go through that. The ACA finally addressed this problem. It was one of the law's core achievements.

But if Trump has his way and wins re-election, millions of Americans could find themselves in a place where insurers would deny their coverage at any price — because that was the sort of discriminatory practice we saw before the ACA was passed.

Folks like you deserve leaders who work tirelessly to ensure every single person has access to quality, affordable health care, regardless of whether or not they have a pre-existing condition. I am going to keep fighting to make sure we get those leaders elected, but I need your support.
