The American people might think that the Senate would be doing everything in our power to address the COVID-19 pandemic -- but they would be wrong. Instead, Mitch McConnell and the Senate GOP fast-tracked President Trump's nominee to fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.
There has been an orange cloud over this confirmation from the start -- and the reason that the Republicans have rushed this process is simple. They needed to confirm a right-wing justice to the Supreme Court before their case to eliminate the Affordable Care Act is heard on November 10.
There has never been a Supreme Court Justice confirmed this close to Election Day. It is shameful that Senate Republicans turned their back on tradition and their own precedent from 2016 to pursue this power grab and install a conservative justice to support the GOP's agenda.
We can't afford more of Mitch McConnell's failed leadership. We need to elect a Democratic Senate majority -- and that starts by defending our Democratic Senate seat right here in Illinois.
