This has gone on for too long.

Not a week goes by in America without a mass shooting, and I'm sick of it.

The House passed sweeping legislation for gun control, but it's up to the Senate to end this epidemic. We need a Congress that puts people's safety above an NRA rating. It is time for action, and I've got plans.

Today, I announced my comprehensive policy agenda to combat gun violence that will enact bold changes for public safety. To take it all the way to the Senate, I need to know that you're with me.

There is no single solution that will prevent the next Sandy Hook, Parkland, or El Paso. Or the epidemic of gun deaths from suicides and homicides. That's why I dove deep into finding every option to fix the system.

We need to expand background checks and close the gun show loophole while creating an online portal for sellers to easily access that information.

We need to make sure every gun part sold contains a serial number, so we can track every piece of a self-assembled assault weapon.

We need red flag laws to make it easier for families and law enforcement to step in when someone is exhibiting threatening behavior.

We need to raise the minimum age of sale to 21 and require gun owners to have liability insurance.

And above all else, we need to clarify and expand the definition of assault weapons and ban assault rifles as well as the attachments that make them more lethal.

I'm ready to bring my plans to the Senate to make the people of New Mexico and all of America safer. I am not afraid of the NRA, especially when I know you've got my back.
