Tonight (as in, within moments) is the final vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to replace Justice Ginsburg's open SCOTUS seat. This appointment will have untold consequences, especially on the lives of young people.

We must make it clear, regardless of the vote outcome, that we are in this fight until the endand that the fight does not end today. Show your Senator that you are watching, and dissenting, even until the final moment.

Tell the Senate they need to protect our healthcare and reproductive freedoms. Say no to any Supreme Court confirmation until after Inauguration.

Hey John,

As you probably already know, when Justice Ginsburg—or as she was known fondly to many young people, the Notorious RBG—passed away, a vacancy opened in the Supreme Court. Never before has a court vacancy been filled this late in an election year.

Unsurprisingly, this has not stopped Donald Trump from already proposing her replacement. This administration is attempting to appoint Amy Coney Barrett, who is on record as being anti-abortion and against the Affordable Care Act. It’s imperative there is no Supreme Court confirmation until after Inauguration.

This appointment could have untold consequences, especially on the lives of young people. Supreme Court Justices serve for life, so young people could be dealing with these issues for decades to come.

There is no more urgent issue facing the Supreme Court than that of health care. One week after the election, the Court will take up President Trump’s lawsuit to end the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If another Trump-appointed justice joins the court, over 20 million Americans could lose their health insurance.

SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY AND HEALTH CARE

This is the last thing we need during a pandemic that has killed 200,000 Americans, infected over 7 million, and caused over 30 million to seek unemployment assistance. These 7 million Americans who were infected now have a pre-existing condition. This means that without the ACA, insurance companies can simply decide not to cover them.

Additionally, this would allow young people to be kicked off their parents' health insurance plans while they’re still unable to provide their own coverage. The loss of the ACA would be an abject disaster for young people.

The ACA is not the only thing at stake here. Reproductive health care—which is essential for young people—could also be on the chopping block for the new Supreme Court. Amy Coney Barrett could give the court the majority it needs to further erode the promise of Roe v. Wade. This would severely limit the reproductive freedom of young people.

Tell the Senate they need to protect our healthcare and reproductive freedoms. Say no to any Supreme Court confirmation until after Inauguration.

To protect our futures, our health, and our families, it is imperative that Justice Ginsburg’s seat remain open until after the inauguration of the next president. We should all be inspired by Justice Ginsburg’s spirit of dissent and take this opportunity to make our voices heard on this life-changing issue.

Yours,
