The world is facing challenges that no one nation -- not even one as powerful as the United States -- can meet alone.

But Donald Trump's erratic policies and failure to uphold basic democratic principles are threatening our security, our future, and our ability to lead the world.

So today, I'm announcing my plan to reset our democracy and restore dignified American leadership at home and respected leadership on the world stage.

We only have one opportunity to reset our democracy after Trump, and we have to be prepared to make the most of it.

My plan to advance the security, prosperity, and values of the United States and meet the challenges of the 21st Century has three parts:

Reinvigorate our own democracy & strengthen the coalition of democracies that stand with us;
Equip our people to succeed in a global economy with a foreign policy for the middle class; and
Renew American leadership to mobilize global action on global threats.
Democracy is the heart of who we are and how we see the world -- and how the world sees us. And I believe that, in 2019, foreign policy IS domestic policy, and domestic policy IS foreign policy, so I'll focus on getting our house in order from day one.

I'll also focus on building our economic security, starting by strengthening our greatest asset -- our middle class. We will win the competition for the future against China and everyone else by sharpening our innovative edge and unleashing our full potential.

Finally, we must renew our leadership on the world stage. That starts by restoring and reimagining our partnerships and institutions, including NATO, and ending the forever wars in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

We've got a lot of work to do to repair relationships with our allies, rebuild our respect in the world, and once more put the United States at the head of the table -- but I know we can meet this challenge.
