Are you having a hard time keeping up with the deluge of news these days? We get it. Here at CREW, it’s literally a full time job...so we know just how overwhelming it can be.

But we stay on top of the news for a reason: it lets us take aggressive action where we can. Here’s a round-up of our recent discoveries and legal actions so you can get up to date and get on with your day without it becoming your day.

President Trump’s profiteering:

• Trump’s DC hotel is sold out on election week, and he’s hosting a victory party there on election night. Why waste a chance to profit from the presidency?
• 150 foreign government officials have visited Trump businesses during his presidency. That will surely be interesting to everyone who is concerned with politicians’ foreign conflicts of interest.
• Trump made more than $60,000 in “consulting fees” from the Trump Organization during 2018. Is he consulting for his business as president, or is this a strategy to dodge taxes?

Demanding accountability:

• CREW got records from ICE that show that instead of decreasing detentions, as Congress demanded, ICE expanded its network of detention centers in Louisiana which cost taxpayers at least $20 million.
• Trump claimed that Puerto Rico got $91 billion in disaster aid a year and a half after Hurricane Maria. CREW got records showing FEMA had actually only sent $3.3 billion at that point.

Legal violations:

• Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, violated the Hatch Act multiple times, so we’ve filed two complaints. He also deleted his official Twitter account after we sent one of the complaints, which may have violated a federal record keeping law. We filed a complaint about that, too.
• Ivanka Trump violated the Hatch Act 19 times in nine days by boosting her father’s campaign and documenting her campaign travels to swing states on Twitter.
• Even Trump’s attorney general is failing to follow the law. AG Barr should know better, so we filed a complaint, just the latest of many. We have also called on Congress to impeach him for his constant and dangerous lawlessness.

The Trump administration’s corruption, misleading statements and legal violations are not slowing down as election day approaches. So we at CREW are doing our best to keep up. We’ll keep filing complaints, digging into investigations and calling out the abuses for as long as we need to.
