John,
My Republican opponent is a passionate conservative Trump supporter — so I almost take it as a compliment when he attacks me. It's because I stand for everything that he is against, and I'm completely unapologetic about my progressive values.
But when he comes for my record with absolutely no facts to back up his claims, that's where I draw the line. Most recently, he's been spreading baseless lies that I have "not secured any funding" for NY-12's infrastructure.
He might want to get a fact-checker to verify those numbers before hurling accusations that don't add up. During my time representing our district, I have secured over $10.7 billion in federal infrastructure funding for New York's 12th District:
Second Avenue Subway: Secured over $1.3 billion in federal funds, decreasing congestion by roughly 35%.
Kosciuszko Bridge: Secured $814 million in federal funds, 95% of the project’s funding.
East Side Access: Secured $203 million in federal funds to link Long Island Railroad trains to Grand Central Station.
63rd St Tunnel Connector: Secured $306 million in federal funding, relieving crowding on the E and F trains.
Queens Plaza Roadway: Secured $37 million in federal funding, improving traffic patterns and creating a new open space.
Sunnyside Rail Yard: Secured $300 million in federal grants for high-speed rail improvement.
Dutch Kills Green: Secured $20 million in federal funding to transform a parking lot into a community park.
Floating Hospital: Secured $37.9 million in federal funds for the Floating Hospital, the only federally qualified community health center on NYCHA property.
Ferries: Secured $4.4 million for new NYC ferries.
Public Housing: Secured hundreds of millions in federal funding for NYCHA developments in NY-12, for infrastructure improvements including roof repairs, elevators, brickwork, generators, and Hurricane Sandy recovery.
Waterfront Recovery: Secured $650 million in federal funding for the Army Corps of Engineers to repair the Queens Seawall and $60 billion in Superstorm Sandy recovery and resiliency funds.
On top of securing $10.7 billion+ in federal funding, I've led several other community projects that seek to develop sustainable, affordable, and environmental infrastructure plans such as: providing affordable senior housing, preventing affordable housing from being converted into luxury apartments, building new schools, developing comprehensive air quality standards, implementing home energy saving solutions, and much more.
Let me be clear: None of these accomplishments would be possible without my incredible supporters, so I proudly consider these achievements to be shared victories with the NY-12 community — and I simply won't stand for anyone who tries to disparage the meaningful work that we've done together.
I look forward to making even further progress on New York City's infrastructure, but I need to know you're still with me in this fight. Will you make a contribution right now so that I can keep working in Congress to improve the infrastructure, transportation, housing, environment, and lives of NY-12?
